Exceptional service from Luke at Pitman. Pitman are the go to resource for vintage ribbon mics of all kinds but Pitman is THE spot for the big RCA Ribbons. Trained by a master Pitman will keep the legacy of classic audio engineering alive and well.

Have hired Pitman microphones many times for repairs of vintage RCA as well as Altec/WE microphones and always got prompt attention, great service and fast turnaround. Would recommend Pitman!

Our Story
Pitman Microphones is the most trusted name in ribbon microphone repair, restoration and beyond. We are proud to carry on the tradition of this craft while doing our part to help to carry it well into the future. Pitman continues to be the only microphone repair service that restores RCA mics to exact RCA specifications.
About Us

Luke Petersen founded Pitman Microphones in 2024, following an 8-year full-time apprenticeship under legendary RCA technician Clarence Kane. Luke began working with Kane at his home workshop in Pitman, NJ, and took great care to learn the nuances of ribbon microphone repair until his retirement and passing. During their time together, Kane taught Luke the particular needs of every known ribbon microphone model made by RCA, as well as Altec, Royer, Reslo, B&O, AEA, Coles, Beyerdynamic, Shure, Western Electric, Rode, and many more.
Luke is also a proud alumni of the University of Hartford's esteemed Acoustical Engineering program, having earned a BSE in Acoustical Engineering & Music (Jazz Guitar). There, he did extensive research on the physics of ribbon microphones, conducting new experiments in which the critical variables of a ribbon microphone were isolated and manipulated via a fully-adjustable ribbon transducer. Luke also closely studied the work of RCA Acoustical Engineer and ribbon microphone pioneer Harry F. Olson, uncovering forgotten prototypes and design principles.

This combination of deep theoretical study and authentic hands-on experience provides Luke a one-of-a-kind expertise in ribbon microphones. At this point, Luke has repaired and restored thousands of ribbon mics, and is grateful for the opportunity to carry on this craft. Luke plans to bring his unique knowledge of acoustics and hands-on ribbon microphone experience to the production market in the near future.
